BMW R 1200 GS Adventure

Some journeys you can tell are going to be tough just by looking at the map but there are a lot of good bikes out there to master such challenges.

However, the last years it was rather clear that if I would go on a long journey eastwards, I would choose the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure. The bike is characterized by a nice mixture of sporty handling and suitability for touring and off-road use.

With a monstrous 33-litre tank you can go long distances and you don’t need to panic when the next petrol station is located a few hundred kilometers far away. In addition, I chose the shorter first gear for my bike as a special option –  this gives additional advantages when riding over very confined, difficult terrain.

There is of course a downside to all the advantages: The bike is a giant – and more than a quarter of a ton fully loaded.

Special thank goes to Uwe Rudisch from BMW Stüdemann in Hamburg. He has been very helpful and supportive when I was preparing the journey and gave me some good advice.
